PEMF therapy overview

PEMF therapy is a unique and non-invasive alternative treatment for several pains, inflammation, and neurological problems. It sends magnetic energy into the body and it stimulates and exercises cells to help cellular dysfunction and support overall health wellness.

This therapy naturally influences electrical changes on a cellular level and influences cellular metabolism. It works with your body’s own recovery processes to help relieve chronic pain. Best of all, it’s entirely safe. Ultimately, the human body requires electricity to sign signals throughout the body and to your brain. PEMF therapy effectively can realign the electricity in your cells. When a cell is stimulated, it allows positive charges to enter a cell in an open ION channel. The inside of this cell becomes positively charged, which will trigger other electrical currents, turning into pulses. This can positively influence movement, healing, and sending of signals. Any disruption in electrical currents can lead to dysfunction or illness. Pulsed PEMF therapy helps restore this disruption in electrical current to the normal state, which promotes overall wellness.

Once a human cell’s voltage drops below -20 or -25 millivolts then those cells can’t heal or become dysfunctional. By including a mild electrical magnetic current into the damaged cells, this therapy slows or stops the release of pain and inflammatory mediators, increases blood flow of the cells, and re-establishes normal cell interaction that improves our healing process and overall health.

PEMF therapy can be used for many purposes like better circulation, pain relief, improving muscle relaxation, repairing the bone injury, decreasing inflammation and swelling, enhancing cellular repair and recovery, to boost immunity, for better sleep.

Though there are some disadvantages of PEMF therapy and here are some of them -

PEMF therapy improves blood circulation and sometimes it causes problems like sometimes blood flow keeps increasing even after withdrawal of therapy and it may cause oxidative stress.

PEMF therapy improves traffic to nerve cells so some patients may feel increasing temporary pain.

Decreasing blood pressure is one of the serious side effects of PEMF therapy.

Once PEMF therapy is started then a significant drop in blood sugar level can be followed so it is important to take precautions for those people who have a challenge in regulating their blood sugar.

Though there are some little effects like dizziness, sleep disturbances, increased urination, etc these all side effects can be followed only for 5% of people who are treated by this therapy.

There are some specific types of people who should consult their doctors before taking PEMF therapy, like -

Once PEMF therapy starts, blood sugar can drop significantly so People who use insulin due to blood sugar problems. PEMF therapy can be harmful to them.

For people who have cardiovascular problems, for them, this therapy can be dangerous because dropping blood pressure and heart rate can appear as side effects of PEMF therapy.

PEMF therapy is an electromagnetic therapy so it can create problems for pacemaker users.

For people who have undergone organ transplants or any pregnant women, PEMF therapy is not recommended.

This therapy has been in use for several years but nowadays it is getting popular and there is some evidence that shows the effectiveness of PEMF therapy even on anti-aging, beautifying skin, migraine, cerebral palsy, etc.

In 2006, this therapy got approval from the FDA for use on any kind of chronic fatigue, chronic inflammation, osteoporosis.
